ABOUT LATENITE FILMS…

Perfection we do at once, miracles take a little longer…
A day has 24 hours and if that’s not enough, we shall work nights too…

Established in early 2007 by a team of students studying Film & Television at Swinburne University, LateNite Films has come a long way since it’s initial conception. It was originally set up Chris Hocking, Isaac Egan, Nick Colla and Eloise Loxton during the production of the short film, “Happy Sundaes”, with the intention that any projects developed by the team could be promoted under the same banner. Over the preceding couple of years many more productions were added to the slate, as several talented people joined the family, and others moved on to do different things. Like most young up-and-coming companies, it took a little while for us to find our feet. What originally started as a bunch of film students essentially thrown together to create some cool short films under the same name, has since evolved into a cutting edge production company with the sole mission of creating top quality media.

We are not a traditional all-in-house production company, in that we don’t always produce, create and market all of our creations under the latenite banner. We’re all about developing great ideas, and then finding the right people to get them off the paper and onto a screen. As a company, we provide the tools and resources to help our team establish their ideas in a friendly, exciting and manageable environment. We pride ourselves in utilising the very best in technology, in all aspects of production and also have an extensive network of friendly experts to call upon whenever we run into any kind of problem. We’re all about team work, sharing knowledge, having fun, pushing boundaries and just making truly entertaining, ground breaking films! We truly love film, and we honestly devote all our time to telling stories.

Following the lead of industry innovators such as Peter Jackson, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Robert Rodriguez the ultimate mission of latenite films is to help revive the Australian film industry by bringing together a team of some of the most talented up-and-coming people in the industry, and providing them the tools they need to just get out their and make top quality films. Just like Peter Jackson has created so many amazing opportunities for New Zealand film-makers, we want to get to a point were we can offer the same kind of incredible experiences for like-minded Aussies. We want to bring together the best writers, the best directors, the best actors, visual effect artists, gaffers and runners, throw them together in the same place, and just work as one big team to get Australia back on the map as a country that makes films the world actually wants to see.

TEAM LEADERS

” Failure is an option… Fear is not… ” (James Cameron)

Our team of fearless LateNite team leaders include:

CHRIS HOCKING

Chris was one of the founding members of the LateNite team, taking care of producing and sound duties on both Happy Sundaes and Superb Menura. Despite his very young face, Chris has been working in the entertainment industry for many years, touring with the Arena Spectacular kids show “Tweenies Live” at an amazing young age. After completing high school with a perfect score in Multimedia (Arts Interactive), he went on to work full time for a live events production company – a job which took him all over the country, as well as overseas to places like South Africa and Taiwan, working as a lighting designer, senior technician and production manager. In 2006 he decided to head back to school, taking up Film & Television at Swinburne University. During his time at University, Chris worked on a wide range of independent feature films, video clips, short films and television programs in various technical roles, and once he finished his studies, he went on to work in the world of post production on top of his commitments at LateNite Films. He is currently the Post Production Supervisor at Melbourne’s award winning editing house The Butchery. Chris is the “ringleader” of the family and provides the motivation and support to ensure that all of the LateNite Producers can achieve the seemingly impossible.

NICK COLLA

Nick was also one of the founding members of LateNite Films having written and directed Happy Sundaes and acted as a technical assistant on Superb Menura and SAKOOZ. Since these initial projects, Nick has been busy working on a number of projects under the latenite banner in a number of different roles. More recently Nick has written, directed and co-produced the latenite 2010 Tropfest entry One Flu North and written and starred in their dual 48 Hour Film entry Handle With Care (with Draught Films) which took out the Best Script & Best Character awards. Although quite young, Nick has been working in the Film & Television industry for over 10 years now, having first worked professionally as an actor at the age of 10. Since that time he has worked extensively in kid’s drama having appeared on Driven’ Crazy, The Saddle Club, Wicked Science 2, Toasted TV and in a lead role on the AFI award winning children’s series Holly’s Heroes. He has also appeared in guest roles in Neighbours, Blue Heelers, The Nation and earlier this year City Homicide (sporting a pretty spectacular mullet.) Nick is excited about the year ahead with a number of different projects on the boil.

THE TEAM

Our team of amazing editors, producers, writers and directors include:

ANDREW CHAPLIN

After working with Chris and Jacqui on several projects external to LateNite Films, Andrew was picked up by the LateNite team to help out in the editing suite. Andrew recently completed a Bachelors Degree at Deakin University majoring in Film & Philosophy as well completing a few short courses at Swinburne along the way. Primarily interested in editing, Andrew has spent the last year working as an assistant editor in Melbourne. His aim is to cut as many projects as possible, whether they be commercials, short films or documentaries!

ANLI VUONG

Anli joined the team after Happy Sundaes was completed taking on the role of Production Manager (amongst many other roles) for Superb Menura. Anli’s passion for film began with Special Effects with Filmtrix, she then commenced the Film and Television course at Swinburne in 2006. Her interests are diverse, ranging from production management to art direction and costume. Anli in many ways one of the most crucial members of the family, managing to keep the rest of the crew sane, providing a middle ground between opinions and logic when all seems lost.

EDUARD J

The amazing Eddie has been working in the film and television industry for many years now. He can write, he can direct, he can edit, he can put together cameras and even patch up RAIDs. In fact, there’s not much Eddie can’t do. It’s very rare that a person can master both the creative and technical elements of filmmaking – but Eddie does it with ease.

JULIA MAHONEY

Although Julia is only new to the LateNite family, she’s been hanging around in the background for years! Not only is she a talented writer, director and producer, but she is small enough that she can even jump inside the SAKOOZ Pinky costume and act! Smart, beautiful and fearless – Julia is just the kind of girl you need around to get things done!

EXTENDED FAMILY
Panel Line

Caithlin Ferrier worked on pre-production of the SAKOOZ Teaser/Trailer. She is an incredibly talented artist, who can not only draw and paint, but also write, edit and direct! She didn’t stay on for the duration of the teaser/trailer, choosing to take on the challenge of her own short film production, “Dog”.

David Cleeve helped out on the early stages of the pre-production of the SAKOOZ Teaser/Trailer, however his stay was only brief as he decided it was more beneficial for him to focus on writing and directing his own productions. David is one of the nicest and hardest working people you’ll ever meet, so make sure you keep an eye out for his production company, True Ride Productions.

Eloise Loxton was a key member of the family in the creation of Happy Sundaes, taking care of Production Management and Graphic Design duties. She decided to jump ship after Happy Sundaes was completed so that she could expand her skill base with various other projects. Elly is now working in the make-up department, so if you ever need someone to give your actors a black eye or make them loose a finger, she’s your girl! We cannot recommend her highly enough. Visit her website here.

Isaac Egan was one of the founders of the latenite team. After shooting Happy Sundaes and directing Superb Menura, he has since moved out of the film world, and into the world of broadcast television. Despite the fact that Isaac very rarely sleeps, he is always up for any challenge, and is constantly pushing boundaries. We wish Isaac the very best with his future ventures – although deep down, we know he’ll be back again soon with some new harebrained scheme!
