WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE…

A day has 24 hours and if that’s not enough, we shall work nights too…
Welcome to the website of latenite films, a young and innovative screen development company, based in Melbourne Australia. It was established in early 2007 by a team of students studying Film & Television together at University, so that we could develop a collection of vastly different projects all under the same banner, but has since evolved into a talented community of film-makers with the sole mission of making top quality media – whether that be short films, commercial feature films or even online digital media projects. Regardless of the screen (whether it be a theatre, mobile phone, computer screen or something completely different) we’re interested in putting entertaining and challenging content on it! We are also strongly up for helping like minded film-makers get their ideas of the ground, hence the reason we set up Melbourne Rebels. We hope that you enjoy looking around this site, and feel free to contact us should have have any questions!

SHE’S MY BABY

We recently teamed up with director/editor David Cleeve and his talented team at True Ride Productions to produce a video clip for Melbourne band, Kingswood. The video clip for their hit song, “She’s My Baby” was shot at The Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda on a mixture of Canon 5D and 7Ds under the instruction of Director of Photography James Ballard. We supplied lighting and grip equipment as well as a Canon 5D. Chris Hocking was in charge of the stage lighting and gaffer duties, and Eduard J took care of 2nd Camera. The footage looks amazing – so we will definitely let you know when the clip is eventually released into the public! Congratulations to everyone involved! It was an amazingly fun and exciting shoot!

TOPtoTOP hits the World Expo!

Jacqui Hocking’s documentary footage taken as part of her TOPtoTOP Documentary will be screening at the Swiss Pavilion of the World Expo 2010 Show in Shanghai. From all reports both the TOPtoTOP expedition and Jacqui’s footage is causing quite a lot of media attention in China, which is fantastic!
The World Expo is a large-scale, global, non-commercial Expo. The hosting of the World Expo must be applied for by a country and approved by the international World Expo committee. Expo aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development of the world economy, culture, science and technology, to allow exhibitors to publicise and display their achievements and improve international relationships. Accordingly, the World Expo with its 150-year history is regarded as the Olympic Games of the economy, science and technology.

Transmission

Jacqui Hocking has been very busy the last week working as 1st Assistant Director on one of Dark Heart Productions latest productions, a VCA short film called Transmission. Directed by the amazingly talented Nicholas Carlton, the film was shot on one of the VCA’s brand new RED ONE’s by Shyam Ediriweera in a beautiful warehouse in Melbourne. The footage all looks amazing, as do all the production stills. For further information make sure you keep an eye on the Dark Heart site for updates!

Cloudland & Wrong Girl Shoot

At the beginning of this year we were lucky enough to help produce two trailers for feature films penned by acting legend Nicholas Hammond, in association with 16th Street Actors Studio. A handful of scenes were shot with the actors from 16th Street Studio’s full time program, directed by Nicholas Hammond himself and shot by latenite collaborator Benjamin Hidalgo.
The clips are nearing the final stages of post production and will be used to source funding to help produce the two feature films. Our very own Nick Colla was production manager for the shoot as well as juggling the role of ‘Saheem’ in Wrong Girl. Jacqui Hocking came on as 1st AD amidst a very busy schedule and also had a hand in the initial stages of editing.
Make sure you check out the production stills from both Cloudland and Wrong Girl.

CHRIS IS BACK!

After travelling the world on a well deserved holiday – Chris has finally returned back home from his travels! Travelling through China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Egypt & East Africa – it certainly was an epic journey! In his absence Nick Colla and Jacqui Hocking took care of all latenite operations, and kept the ship sailing on right course. We are all very excited to have Chris return, as we certainly have a lot of big projects in the pipeline!
If you want to have a look at some of the places Chris visited, make sure you check out Karen Mead’s travel blog, which documents their journey from Melbourne to Moshi:

TOP TO TOP: JACQUI’S BACK FROM INDIA!

TOPtoTOP is one families journey to travel to the seven highest peaks of each continent, using only the power of nature and human force! This story joins them in the ROLEX Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race, while talking about their journey from Mt Blanc in Europe, to Aconcagua in South America, and from Aconcagua to Mt Kosciusko in Australia.
Only 7 years into their 14 year adventure, you can join Dario and Sabine with their two kids, Salina and Andri, on a mission to save the planet from Global Warming. THIS is that story. Their Journey. FROM TOP to TOP!
You can find more about TOPtoTOP here:
Jacqui Hocking is currently still editing content for a TOPtoTOP documentary, after returning from India – although the first stages are now available on DVD to purchase. She is also putting together a blog documenting her travels (mainly focussing on the production and technical side of things), so check it out:

HIPPO TRAILER ONLINE NOW!

It’s extremely hard to believe, but the amazingly talented Jaime Snyder and Joel Sharpe have officially wrapped principle photography on their short film, There’s a Hippopotamus on our Roof Eating Cake and are nearing the end of post production! It was certainly not a small undertaking – as they were flying high profile actors in from interstate, working with animatronics and puppetry, dealing with Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, and working with a very low budget compared to what they were trying to achieve. But despite all odds, with a true rebel spirit – they’ve wrapped principle photography and are very close to finishing post production. Jessica Lawton (editor) and Lachlan Harris (sound design) are hard at work, piecing the story together.
We supplied lighting, audio and grip equipment, as well as providing technical support and production advice. We are also playing a big part in their post production stages.
Thank you to all the amazing cast and crew who worked on this production! From all reports, everyone had an extremely fun and exciting time.
Also, a massive thank you to everyone who came along to the STORYTIME event at Loop Bar earlier in the year. It was a great night and everyone seemed to enjoy the free cake on offer. Hazel Edwards, the author of the award winning book read the story to a very excited crowd, which was the highlight of the night.

We also still URGENTLY requesting that people submit in honest reviews of the various Melbourne film schools. Please get in touch with us if you would like to write a review. 48 HOURS LATER . . .

Draught Films, with the assistance latenite films have recently thrown together an entry for the Melbourne 48 Hour Film Festival titled Handle With Care. Despite the tight deadline, thanks to an AMAZING team of people, we pulled off something truly fantastic. Not only is the story great (especially considering it was written in one night!), but the whole film looks and sounds amazing. The production team consisted of Chris Hocking, David Christison, La-Ra Hinckeldeyn, Lucy Honigman, Nick Colla, Thom Holt and Shelley Dawe. Every single person in this list went above and beyond… So thank you all!
Handle With Care won the Best Script and Best Use of Character (Nick Colla) at the competition. Unfortunately we didn’t take out Best Film this time round, but there’s always next year! Congratulations to the team behind the short film, “Drainman” who took out the award.
Also… congratulations to our friends at Eidolon Creative for also putting together a really fantastic competition entry, directed by Julian Vincent Costanzo, and shot by the always incredible Jaque Fisher. Nice work!
